It is undeniable that Spain is facing a complex problem that is worsening day by day with climate change. Wildfires occupy the front pages of the news, serve as content to feed social networks, and civil society is demanding solutions. It has been proven that simple solutions based on beliefs and myths, with biased discourses that sometimes leave science aside, are no longer useful. As a society, we have the responsibility to decide how to deal with a situation that is worsening year after year and that, according to all forecasts, tends to get worse.
For this reason, over the course of six months, more than sixty experts from the Community of Wildfires, coordinated by the Pau Costa Foundation, have been working to identify those urgent needs and commitments that must be made to deal with wildfires.
In order to draw up conclusions, last March they met in Madrid for two intense days at the “Forum for debate and proposals for action for the management of great wildfires in Spain”.
The conclusions of this arduous work were made public on 15 June simultaneously in Barcelona, specifically in Can Massana, the gateway to the Montserrat Mountain Natural Park, and in the National Museum of Natural Sciences in Madrid.
